Southern Illinois Scouting is organized into two districts, Big Muddy and Egyptian, but our leadership functions as one unified district committee. This joint approach reflects the way our communities actually operate. Families, volunteers, and units often overlap across county lines, and our resources and opportunities are strongest when they are shared. By working as a single committee, we reduce duplication, strengthen communication, and ensure that every unit in Southern Illinois receives consistent support.
The district committee serves as the leadership body that guides the growth and quality of Scouting in our region. Committee members focus on membership development, unit service, program planning, advancement, training, fundraising, and community partnerships. They coordinate events, support volunteers, and help units deliver a meaningful Scouting experience. Operating jointly allows us to pool the talents of volunteers from both districts, align our priorities, and create a stronger and more resilient Scouting structure for every youth and family we serve.

Our Strategic Plan
The Southern Illinois District Committee has developed a unified strategic plan that guides how Big Muddy and Egyptian Districts work together to strengthen Scouting across our region. This plan outlines our shared priorities, the outcomes we aim to achieve, and the systems we are building to support every unit, volunteer, and family. It provides a clear roadmap for membership growth, program quality, volunteer support, fundraising, and community engagement.
Our strategic plan exists to bring focus and alignment to our work. It defines what success looks like, identifies the key initiatives that will move us forward, and establishes measurable results that help us track progress. By operating from one coordinated plan, our combined district leadership can reduce duplication, improve communication, and ensure that every Scout in Southern Illinois benefits from consistent, high‑quality support.
This plan is a living document. It reflects our commitment to collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Most importantly, it centers our mission: to deliver a meaningful Scouting experience that helps young people grow in character, leadership, and service.
