Big Muddy & Egyptian District Klondike
At Pine Ridge Scout Camp
At Pine Ridge Scout Camp
Test your skills. Brave the elements. Lead the way.
Bundle up and join Scouts from across Southern Illinois for our annual Klondike at Pine Ridge hosted by our local Order of the Arrow chapters. A full day of winter adventure, teamwork, and friendly competition. Inspired by the spirit of the Alaskan frontier, this event challenges patrols to work together as they navigate stations, solve problems, and put their Scouting skills to the test.
Patrols will haul their sleds across the rugged terrain of Pine Ridge, facing challenges in fire building, first aid, knots and lashings, orienteering, wilderness survival, and more. Each station rewards teamwork, leadership, and creativity, not just speed, so every Scout has a chance to shine.
Our adults will also be turning up the heat with our annual Dutch Oven Cookoff! Leaders can showcase their best campfire cuisine, from hearty stews to cobblers and creative frontier‑style dishes. Judges will be looking for flavor, presentation, and classic outdoor cooking technique. Whether you’re competing or just enjoying the aromas drifting through camp, it’s a highlight you won’t want to miss.
Between events, warm up by the fire, enjoy hot drinks, and connect with Scouts from neighboring troops and districts. Leaders and volunteers will be on hand to guide stations, cheer on participants, and help create a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Whether your patrol is aiming for top honors or simply ready for a day of cold‑weather fun, the Klondike is a chance to build skills, strengthen friendships, and embrace the adventure that makes Scouting in Southern Illinois so special.
Open to Scouts BSA units across the region. Dress for the weather, bring your best spirit, and get ready for a winter challenge you won’t forget.
