A strong Scouting program is made possible through our dedicated adult volunteers. Awards and recognition provide opportunities for our units to celebrate and support the extra work that our volunteers put into the program.
Unit Leader Awards recognize Scouters for their tenure, training, and leadership performance. These awards and keys honor the hard work and commitment that help make Scouting experiences memorable for youth. Common elements of the following awards include additional training, tenure in position ranging from 8 month to 3 years, and unit milestones.
The Den Leader Training Award recognizes den leaders who have completed training, tenure, and performance requirements. Available for Tiger Cub den leaders, Cub Scout den leaders, and Webelos den leaders.
The Scouter's Training Award can be earned by Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scout leaders as well as District Committee members, in named leadership roles for their unit. It encourages training, tenure in a position, participation, and performance of adult leaders.
The Scouter's Key can be earned by Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Venturing Crew Advisors, district and assistant district commissioners, district committee members in key leadership roles. Similar to the Scouter's Training Award, the Scouter's Key encourages training, tenure in a position, and performance of adult leaders.
The Unit Leader Award of Merit encourages units to be strong and viable by attaining certain benchmarks characteristic of strong units; seven requirements must be met with nomination by the top youth leader if for a troop, crew, or ship; nomination is certified by the unit commissioner. The Unit Leader Award of Merit can be granted to Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Venturing Crew Advisors, and Sea Scout Skippers.
